The above picture gets my geek juices flowing. The developer of the overclocking application SetCPU, Michael Huang, has managed to get the HTC EVO 3D, which is powered by a 1.2GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm MSM8660 CPU, overclocked to a whopping 1.7GHz! This feat is even more remarkable seeing as the EVO 3D is still S-ON and only has temporary root access, so the overclocking is made possible by a custom kernel module. The MSM8660 CPU from Qualcomm is underclocked to 1.2GHz in the EVO 3D and HTC Sensation, but is actually capable of 1.5GHz and kicks all kinds of butt at that speed, meaning that 1.7GHz should show insane performance whilst killing your battery life and heating the phone up to grill-like temperatures.

Seeing as the Sensation has pretty much identical hardware to the EVO 3D, we can assume the Sensation will see an overclock to 1.5GHz+ in the near future. My Galaxy S II, overclocked to 1.5GHz, is looking on in envy.

I wonder if it will be able to hit 1.9 like the DesireZ. Would need power tweaks to hit that high though.

Can the SGSII not be overclocked further to match this or is 1.5GHz its limit?

1.7 sounds insane…

If I recall correctly it could be pushed past 1.5GHz, but had force closes and random reboots so the mod was never released.
