What we’re looking at above is a photo of the leaked Sony Ericsson ST25i ‘Kumquat’ and as you can see it’s very, very similar to the Sony Xperia S we saw unveiled at CES. It’s worth noting that it is labelled as a Sony Ericsson device which doesn’t mean it will launch as a one, the Xperia S had Sony Ericsson labelled on it as well even though press shots had just ‘Sony’ — it’s more than likely that it’s a very early prototype.
The design certainly adheres to Sony’s plan to keep their Xperia NXT series of devices looking similar so that they’re distinguishable. The ST25i is smaller than the Xperia S, with a 3.5-inch qHD (960×540 — 280ppi). It also has a 1GHz Dual-Core CPU (goodbye single-core Sony Ericsson phones) and a 5MP rear camera — certainly excellent specs on a smaller device.
Sony Mobile Communications is expected to unveil the ST25i ‘Kumquat’ alongside the previously heard of LT22i ‘Nypon’ at Mobile World Congress later in February.
Just when I thought small screen dual cores were never going to happen…
