Google has just posted a Getting Started video on their GoogleNexus Youtube channel showing new users the basics of turning the tablet on, and setting the device for the first time. The video also goes onto address OTA updates and specifically states ‘Your Nexus 7 receives Software Updates directly from Google’, getting a dig in at other manufacturers maybe? Nexus Pad = FAIL.. This is a picture I took of a brand new Nexus Pad out of the box from a colleague – busted LED backlit only lights up patchy areas of the screen. To complicate the issue further, Asus Australia wants no part in honouring the warranty – you will have to contact Google and send the unit back to them.
Where did you purchase it from? Play store or an actual store? PS can we see the pic?

The device sounds great – I just wish I knew where mine is. No contact from Google, no contact from fedex, just a big hole in my bank balance.

I’m a Google Apps Reseller, I live in Australia (like most around here 😉 and was watching the keynote live (in the middle of the night). The Google Play store didn’t respond until well into the Google Glass presentation when I ordered. (16Gb) My card showed a pre-authorisation which is no longer showing today. I attempted to contact the Google Play team a total of 5 times, spent a total of 46 minutes on hold and spoke to one individual who told me on Monday (the 23rd of July) that my order would be fulfilled yesterday (the 24th) because there… Read more »
As a user shopping experience bonus, Google has just advised me that they cancelled my order because it won’t ship to a PO Box. Google Play store staff tell me that I cannot re-instate the order and have to start again. While putting me through to their supervisor, they disconnected the call. Gotta love it.
Update: Google advises me that they cannot re-instate my automatically cancelled order and that I can start the order from scratch, and wait 5 weeks more. FedEx advises me that Google should have requested an alternate delivery address, rather than cancel the order. FedEx also advise me that they can in fact deliver to a PO Box, if you send it to the physical address of the Post Office and if you have the agreement of postal staff to sign on your behalf.
