Nexus 4 - Box

Update: We’ve heard back from Google. Sorry guys, no news from them for now.

We’ve got the message guys. We know you want to know when the Nexus 4 will be returning to Australian shores. We’ve read your tweets, considered your emails, and even received a few of your carrier pigeons at our Sydney balcony. We want to know as much as you do!

We’ve reached out to Google Australia for any information they have, however while we wait for an update, we can give you some news out of the UK, which may hint at what’s going on here. Customers who have purchased the Nexus 4 online via the Play Store in the UK have received an email update from Dan Cobley, Managing Director of Google UK. Cobley has given further detail about the problems Google has faced in selling the Nexus 4 direct via the Play Store:

Dan Cobley, the Managing Director of Google UK & Ireland, has been pulled into the Nexus 4 stock crisis, with an email from the big boss of Google giving more detail on the dreadful problems the company has had in selling the Nexus 4 direct to buyers.

I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue. Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce and erratic, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process.

For those that originally received a 3-5 days shipping estimate, your orders are now in process for fulfillment. You can expect an email notification early this week which will include tracking information. Although you will be initially charged in full, you will receive a credit for the shipping charge soon after.

For others that received pre-Christmas shipping estimates, we anticipate processing your orders for fulfillment this week.

I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right.

In Australia, as elsewhere, the stock issues experienced by would-be buyers of the Nexus 4 are affecting other models too, with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 completely unavailable in Australia, and only the Nexus 7 (non 3G variants) available at the moment. We’ve been unable to place orders for the Nexus 4 in Australia virtually since the launch day, however in the UK, orders placed nearly a fortnight ago — and promised 3-5 day delivery — remain undelivered.

It seems almost guaranteed that the same stock issues from LG are the cause of delays in Australian availability just as they are in the UK. If we receive further word from Google, we’ll let you know.

Any idea if nexus 4 will be available again ever?

Dennis Bareis

There is a rumor that production has stopped and a more powerful version is coming out. Could be true, if so hope price is similar…

theadamtron

I’ve given up getting up trying to get a Nexus 4. Seriously LG, sort it out.

Sean Royce

Don’t just assume it’s all LG’s fault.

KungFu Tiger

I ordered a Nexus 10 on the 3rd of December, when Google Play said that it was in stock. Four days later, the sign was put up on the store that said “out of stock”. On the fifth day after I ordered it, I received an email saying that I was on back order, delivery in 3 weeks, perhaps.

Five days to realise that they have no stock? Hmmmm…

harvz

Im really kicking myself for not ordering one, i saw when it went up but decided that i would wait a few weeks to see if there were any big problems with it…. They only main problem is it never came back up 🙁

tim b

Oppo find 5 for me – no stock of the nexus 4, must look for alternatives.

Franki

lol at the people saying how buying a 3 month old phone is unacceptable…. please. We all sign up for 2 year contracts…. 3 months from date of release is fine.

Matt

We don’t all sign up for contracts.

KungFu Tiger

What’s a contract?

Matt

I thought I was reading my own post for a second 🙂

JeniSkunk

Contracts?
I don’ sign no steenkeeng connedtracts!

Sean Royce

I agree with you, although I like to switch phones a lot, you’re right, people are complaining about menial things.

Let’s keep the comments nice, please..

Ordered a Note 2 today…enough is enough

Sean Royce

Better then Nexus 4. Even if slower updates. That amazing screen.

Paul Boonyarungsrit

Forget it. I’m not gonna wait any longer. Looking at Samsung galaxy s3 4g deal now.

Paul

Next time buy from the US store via VPN. Works out cheaper too

Whytey

It is disappointing. Nexus hardware has been disappointing full stop. When I got my galaxy nexus it wasn’t a pure Google experience. Then I couldn’t get my official docks for months. Then my brother couldn’t get the nexus 4.and now my 3G nexus 7 is still completely non – buyable! Sad face!

John Gabriel

Baffles me how they can have made such a dogs dinner of this whole process, blind freddy could have told them they were going to be able to sell these things by the million.

Dennis Bareis

They didn’t even need to guess, preorders would have told them. Thay are still guessing how many to make 🙁

Sam

This is ridiculous. By the time I would be able to get one it will be at least 3 months old! Ooo yeah, last years tech how exciting… Thought I’d save myself the dissapointment of getting something not new and get a gnex.

John Gabriel

I suppose the only possible upside, if you squint optimistically, is that you end up with the gnex and by the time you do there are lots of useful hacks, mods, etc already road tested for it instead of having to ‘suffer’ with the shiny top of the range N4….

damn you Google.

Matt

Yeah I’m thinking I’ll probably skip this release and wait for the next Nexus.

Jason Forsyth

I’m in the same boat too. Why would I buy a 3 month old phone? I’m sure the GNex will hold out another year of updates.

Sean Royce

What are you all complaining about? 3 months does seem old technology wise, but it’ll still be updated for about 2-3 years. Relax guys.

Kinggy

Why not wait until march/April and get the sgs4

Sean Royce

Can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store, don’t think it’ll be in March or April though. I expect a little later.

Nils Mueller
