In a move likely to further reduce dependence on pricey office suite options from other vendors, who shall remain nameless, Google has decided to take the carpet out from under its competitors and has made one of its newer acquisitions QuickOffice, which it bought in 2012, free for all Android and iOS users.
Of this new offering, Google says:
With Quickoffice, you can edit Microsoft Office documents across your devices, giving you the freedom to work with anyone no matter what hardware or software they’re using. Quickoffice also integrates seamlessly withGoogle Drive storage so you can safely access your files from anywhere. And while the easiest thing to do is simply convert your old files to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Quickoffice gives you another way to work with people who haven’t gone Google yet.
Amongst the expected features of creating and editing Microsoft Office format documents, there are additional new features as well:
- a refreshed icon,
- the ability to create .ZIP folders, and
- view charts in Excel® and PowerPoint files.
The new app works across devices so you don’t have to worry about installing separate versions anymore when you go from using your phone to editing on your tablet. A unified app? Yes please.
The last bit of good news is probably just as sweet as the app itself being free — if you sign in to your Google Account from the new Quickoffice app for Android or iOS by September 26, 2013, an extra 10GB of Google Drive storage will be added to your account for two years (look for it in the next few weeks).
What are you waiting for? Check it out!
so slow and lagyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
i singed in on both android and ios devices. But I can’t see i get the extra 10GB
Works with one account only…….ffuuuuuuuuuuu
Why would you need more than one account?
Personal GMail and we use Google Apps for our Ausdroid work – 2 accounts and I can only access my Google Drive stuff for 1.
If you tap your avatar, there is an option to change account.
I can’t even get it to load though. Keeps saying “Could not connect to network”.
Tried that but like you got no joy.
