Telstra has joined Optus in offering Samsung‘s 8.0-inch version of its Galaxy Tab 3 tablet on contract.
Prospective purchasers can find the device on Telstra’s site, where on-contract pricing ranges from $52/month for 1GB of data to $107/month for 15GB of data.
The contracts have no upfront purchase cost and run for 2 years (24 months). Telstra also points out that users will get an additional 50GB of storage space for 2 years with Dropbox, in what seems to be a standard offering for Samsung devices these days.
You’ll find the full specs for the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 in our original launch coverage, but the headline specs are an 8.0-inch 1280 x 800 display, powered by a 1.5 Ghz dual core CPU with 1.5 GB of RAM with 16GB onboard storage, a MicroSD slot and 5MP rear / 1.3MP front camera.
It’s worth remembering that the Galaxy Tab 3 was launched in Australia about 6 months ago, so if Samsung sticks to a yearly update cycle you can expect to see a 4th and 5th generation device hit the market before your 2 year contract is up. Additionally, the Wi-Fi-only version of the tablet will currently set you back a little under $400 with a small premium above that for the LTE-capable version – you should consider this when deciding whether you want to opt for an on-contract tablet.
