As Android enthusiasts, we often start wondering what changes will arrive in the next version of the OS once the current version is released. While Android 4.4.2 has been around for a while, a number of bugs remain, leaving us to wonder when the next version would arrive and hoping it would fix each little annoyance. Now, it seems that the release of Android 4.4.3 is imminent.
The folks at the Chromium bug tracker noticed a build KTU83. Decoding this as per other Android build numbers reveals that the K represents KtiKat, the T Testing, and the 83 is the 83rd day in the quarter — which makes it March 24.
While Google publicly commented that 4.4.3 would include a fix for the Nexus 5 camera bug, not much else was known about 4.4.3 … until now.
Android Police recently received a tip from a reliable source, detailing the Android 4.4.3 changelog.
Being a point-point release, it appears to contain mostly bugfixes, and is less about UI changes. We’re fine with that. The headline bugfixes are:
- frequent data connection dropout fix
- mm-qcamera-daemon crash and optimization fixes
- camera focus in regular and HDR modes fixes
- Power Manager display wakelock fix
- multiple Bluetooth fixes
- app shortcuts sometimes got removed from launcher after update
- USB debugging security fix
- app shortcuts security fix
- Wi-Fi auto-connect fix
- other camera fixes
Other than those, we’re also looking at bugfixes in MMS, Email/Exchange, Calendar, People/Dialer/Contacts, DSP, IPv6, VPN, missed call LED, subtitles, data usage graph, Internet telephony. Perhaps more worryingly, there’s an “FCC Compliance fix”, and a “Stuck in activation screen fix” — if your phone’s stuck on the activation screen, our condolences.
This is by no means a complete list of fixes, only those currently in testing – a particular fix may or may not be included in the final release, depending on how testing progresses.
Any bugfixes are welcome, and we’re looking forward to another point release for our Nexus devices, but OEMs who’ve just pushed out 4.4.2 are probably less enthused about the changes. We’re curious to see what fixes Google’s going to bring to camera focusing, particularly in relation to the Nexus 5.

Audio playback (Music + Podcasts) on my Nexus 4 stops both randomly and after various system events (e.g. coming into range of known WiFi)..super, super annoying. Am really hoping this is one of the “miscellaneous” bugs that get’s fixed.

Does anyone still experience the bug that results in a spare, empty home screen from time to time? I think it occurs when you uninstall an app.

4.4.2 has been out for a while now. It’s taken them a while to get 4.4.3 out. Not that it matters to me. I’m not even using a Nexus device.
