Are you a Twitter user forever frustrated by some users who decide to engage in back-to-back tweets from time to time? For example, do you have that one friend who you love talking to, but they like to live-tweet sports events or concerts?

Most third-party Twitter clients have had a solution to this very issue for some time now, offering users the ability to mute a given user, given keywords or even #hashtags. Twitter’s official app, though, hasn’t offered such a feature.

Until now. Twitter is including a feature in upcoming app releases (and in it’s web client as well) to allow twits to mute particular users, which will hide that user’s tweets, retweets and replies from your timeline. Unfortunately its limited to user-mutes only; there’s no word on muting keywords or hashtags at this stage, but Twitter does do things slowly, so they might come with time.

If you haven’t received the update yet, don’t panic. It’s rolling out over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on the Play Store for the updated version.
