The exposed copper contacts on the rear of the LG G Watch have been causing some issues for some owners of the watch, with some owners reporting corrosion of the POGO pins. But a software update rolling out to the G Watch, is apparently addressing this.
The corrosion of the pins is due to a galvanic process – a chemical reaction between two materials (Metals in this case) when voltage is run through an electrolyte (sweat). The update is said to address this issue by disabling the current while not charging. A commentor on Android Police provided the text of a conversation between himself and an LG Representative which was further confirmed by Google :

Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back. While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. The maintenance release will be rolled out automatically over-the-air to all G Watch owners. We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The update which sees the build on the G Watch updated from KMV78V to KMV78Y is arriving on watches now, but it’s a staged rollout, so don’t fear if you haven’t received it yet. The corrosion is only being experienced by a relatively small group of people, unfortunately the update won’t target these people first, but hopefully it should hit everyone relatively quickly.

I would have thought corrosion was more likely from oils in the skin rather than a minor residual current in the pogo pins… Will be interesting to see if my Gear Live suffers from a similar issue.
