SimCity BuildIt

EA Games has announced that it will soon be bringing SimCity BuildIt, a new game in the SimCity franchise, to Android and iOS.

We’ve only got a very brief description about the game so far:

The choices you make evolve your city in a variety of ways. Meet your citizens’ needs to keep them happy, or make questionable choices and feel your citizens’ wrath. Pinch, zoom, and rotate 360 degrees as you manage your city in the palm of your hand. With countless buildings and vivid, 3D-quality graphics, it’s the most advanced mobile building simulation game.

There’s no official release date yet, but PocketGamer says the game will soft-launch in a select few countries in the coming months. Given that Australia was a soft-launch country for Plants vs Zombies 2, it’s possible we’ll get to check it out soon! A downer? Given EA’s recent penchant for heavy reliance on in-app purchases it seems that the game will fall into the “free to play, but with in-app purchases” basket.

Regardless, it’s pretty exciting to see a new SimCity game coming!

I have no issues with in-app purchases as a concept. It’s the way that they’re pushed on to users, or hidden away until they’ve reeled you in, that gets me.

I don’t think enough developers are clear about exactly what you get with or without IAP. I think that’s the problem that needs to be fixed.

Even some apps with free and premium versions don’t explain the difference well.
