When LG announced the G Watch R in August at IFA it was said to be arriving in the fourth quarter of 2014. The Wall Street Journal then came across information that suggested that October would be the month of release. Now LG Korea have officially announced via their Korean website that the G Watch R will be officially released there on the 14th of October.

Not only have LG announced the date but they have also mentioned the price, 352,000 KRW. This, if directly translated into Australian dollars is around the $370 mark, but expect a little Australia tax on top of that price before we are able to get our hands on it. Whether this is a good price or not depends on you and how badly you want a round smartwatch but I am sure that no one expected it to be the same price as the original G Watch. Personally I am happy to pay more for a watch that looks a lot better with added functionality than the original G Watch that I already own.

The LG G Watch R will arrive with:

  • 1.2GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon 400
  • 1.3-inch P-OLED Display (320 x 320)
  • 4GB eMMC / 512MB RAM
  • 410mAh
  • Android Wear – compatible with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above
  • 9-Axis (Gyro/ Accelerometer/ Compass), Barometer, PPG (heart rate)
  • Standard 22mm Changeable Watch Strap (user-changeable to any standard 22mm watch band)
  • Black
  • Dust and Water Resistant (IP67)

As for the time frame for release in Australia we have heard strong rumours mentioning the end of October. Seems like the end of October could be an expensive time for us Android enthusiasts with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 also expected to arrive around then.

Who else is saving up their money for one of these smart watches or are you in Dan’s corner of waiting to see what 2015 brings? Is anyone turned away by the price?

gonna be laughing my arse off if we get the G Watch R before the Moto 360

TheInsider

I’ve been told early November release for Australia at $365. Will be available at retailers like JB etc. Been told looks much better than the 360.

Doesn’t look better than the 360 from the pics.
