Ausdroid app released onto the Play Store

The time has finally come. I’m proud to announce that Ausdroid has pushed its Android app to the Play Store earlier today, and the public beta is now finished. Rather than continue to beta test an extensively tested and proven stable version of the app, we’ve decided to move to an open testing situation. You can now — without signing up to any Google+ group — download the Ausdroid app from the Play Store, and enjoy our content wherever you happen to be, without needing to deal with a mobile browser!

We’re pretty happy with what the app can do, and you will be too:

• Of course, you can view the latest news, reviews, rumours, OS update news and more
• Customise the appearance of the app with user selected text size
• Join in on the discussion, with Disqus comments built right in
• Receive push notifications of new stories, important updates, and reminders (and choose which you will receive)
• Search through our story archive, with free text search, category and tag archives
• Share articles via social media, and if you like, via NFC as well — just hold your phone up to an NFC capable reader, and the current story will be shared!
• Submit tips to the Ausdroid team

The Ausdroid app is free to all users, and is available today.

You should bear in mind that there are ads shown in the app, in order to maintain Ausdroid’s revenue base. We know they’re a bit of an imposition, and in future we will look at ways in which users can opt out of these ads, either through an in-app purchase or by other means.

We are of course considering all feedback, because — like the website — the Ausdroid app is there for you, our readers, first and foremost. We will continue to operate the Google+ Community for the time being until we think we’ve reached a point at which the app is feature-complete.
