Meerkat, the live video streaming service, has announced via its Twitter service that it has begun opening up its service to users to partake in an open beta testing of the service for Android.

Screen Shot 2015-04-17 at 8.37.43 amMeerkat rose to prominence at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas in the USA earlier this year and has got a loyal following through its current users on iOS and comes at an interesting time where Twitter has launched its own live streaming service with the purchase of fellow competitor, Periscope, only a couple of months ago.

It also comes as Twitter is simultaneously limiting Meerkat’s access to its APIs. However the move into Android for Meerkat gives it, at least a big advantage through the closed beta testing program, given both companies apps are only available currently to iOS users sadly.

If you are interested in partaking in the closed beta testing program, you can sign up by clicking here. It is worth considering that we are unsure as to how many beta testers Meerkat is looking to undertake for the program, so its worth heading over and signing up now. Also bear in mind that you also need to have an active Twitter profile to use Meerkat as well.
