When announced at MWC in March, the HTC Vive blew my mind, it was virtual reality unlike anything I had seen previously. Jason got to try it out at IFA and was similarly blown away. My favourite app from Vive was the Tiltbrush app used for 3D painting. Glen Keane, an experienced animator who worked on Disney The Little Mermaid, Tarzan as well as the Google Spotlight Story: Duet, used TiltBrush on the HTC Vive and has similarly fallen in love with the application and the HTC Vive.

The demo was done as part of the Future of Story Telling summit, set to take place next month. The video shows Keane talk about his experience animating and how the Vive and Tiltbrush frees up the artist to work in a 3D environment. The video is amazing, showing Keane drawing two of his most famous characters, Ariel from the Little Mermaid and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

The HTC Vive is powered by Valve Softwares Steam VR platform and the hardware is currently finding its way into the hands of developers now ahead of a consumer launch towards the end of this year.

Though it’s not really Android based, the technology from HTC is absolutely stunning and HTC is running a world tour of the platform at various events and we hope to see it in Australia at some stage, though HTC hasn’t actually announced any dates as yet – but we’ll let you know if they do.

Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.

VR was off to a very slow start, but things like this, might make it mainstream one day.
