Adobe’s on the go mobile photo editing app, Lightroom, has up until now required users to sign up to a paid Adobe Creative Cloud Account. This requirement is about to be removed however with Adobe announcing an upcoming update will remove the requirement for the US$9.99 per month fee to access the app.
Though no date has been given, it’s expected that the update to version 1.3 of the app which launched earlier this year, will not only remove the paid subscription requirement, but it will also bring a collection of new features to the Android app. Adobe has listed the new features Android users can expect in the app:
- Refine individual colors in your photos with the new Color / B&W adjustment tool.
- Precisely control the tone of your photo with the new Tone Curve adjustment tool.
- Bring out the best in your photos with adjustable vignettes.
- Crop the perfect photo with a redesigned experience that enables you to quickly adjust, align, and auto-straighten.
- TIFF files are now supported.
Though not defined, it’s possible that you may still need an Adobe Creative Cloud account, at least if you want to maximise your Lightroom experience, as the app’s spotlight feature give you the ability to sync up content across devices through Adobe’s Creative Cloud service.
Lightroom is one of the best photo editing apps on Android at the moment in my opinion and it is the only apps that allows you to move seamlessly from your phone or tablet to your PC while editing the same image. By doing this, you can take advantage of your PC’s larger storage space and processing power which allows for better results and frees up your mobile storage for other uses – a good thing given the lack of expandable storage on a number of recently released mobile devices.
