whosdown

Google has been working on a social planning app, it seems, which it’s quietly released onto the Play Store with little if any fanfare. Dubbed simply ‘Who’s Down’, the app is all about working out who amongst your friends is ‘down’, which is a rather American turn of phrase for ‘who wants to hang out’. Like most services, it’s only useful if all your friends are actually using it, but being as the app is invite-only for the moment, it’s going to be a bit limited for now.

The app’s main functionality appears to be fairly easy to access; a simple slider allows you to indicate that you’re down, and you can indicate what you’d like to do. Some of the suggestions are a bit American too, especially from the South, such as ‘Anyone down to grab tacos?’. Still, it’s a neat idea.

Once you indicate what you’re up for, you can also see what any of your friends have indicated they would like to do, and you can make arrangements in the app too — the messaging interface doesn’t look even remotely sophisticated, but it doesn’t need to be; this isn’t the venue for a deep and meaningful chat, rather a simple way to tell your mates you want to grab a bite at the local tacqueria and you’ll see them there.

We’ve installed it and requested an invite… we’ll see what (if anything) comes of this!

The app was not found in the store. 🙁

Wonder where it gets the friends from? I can only see it being useful for me if it connects to Facebook.
