Apple Music launched on Android earlier this month offering a 3-month trial period, after which you pay $11.99 per month. It’s about average for music streaming services, but if you’re a new or existing Telstra post-paid customer, it may be worth checking out their Apple Music offer which gets you 12-months of Apple Music for free.
The deal applies to existing customers as well as new sign ups to any 12 or 24 month Go Mobile Plan with a compatible device – compatible for our purposes being any Android device running Android 4.3+ so you can run the Apple Music app.
The savings possible on the plan are pretty good, with a 12-month Apple Music subscription setting you back $143.88 – that’s nothing to be sneezed at for what you get on Apple Music: access to over 30 million songs, a couple of decent hand-curated radio stations including the infamous Beats 1, a ‘For You’ service which recommends music based on your current tastes, and there’s new features like music videos being added in the future.
The only major drawback is that the service does count against your monthly data download cap, so it may be worthwhile making sure you know how much data you’re using.
The Apple Music app, despite being in Beta, is actually quite decent with some clearly designed for Android touches included like that slide-out
menu drawer. The app is fairly easy to navigate and Apple is working to fix the sign-up process, or at least streamline it for Android users.
