HTC announced their aspirational One Day I Will competition in October, inviting people to share their dreams of doing something. Inspired by Sebastian Terry, a man who decided to complete his bucket list after the death of a friend, the competition was for $25,000 in cash to put towards fulfilling your goal. Today, HTC has announced their first winner and announced they will be running the competition again, with entries being accepted until January 30 next year.

My One Day I Will to take the family to Harry Potter world in the US probably wasn’t as aspirational as it could have been, but one person who came up with a great idea is nine-year-old Scott Guerini who is putting the prize money towards his dream of raising $100,000 for sick children before his 10th birthday.

HTC Australia and New Zealand Country Manager Ben Hodgson said:

Scott is the embodiment of everything the ‘One Day I Will’ campaign set out to achieve, uncovering inspiring and spectacular stories and achievements of everyday people doing extraordinary things. We have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of inspirational entries we have received. It is particularly touching to see how many people just want to make a difference in the lives of others and create a better world. These are exactly the reasons why we started the campaign, enabling people to live a brilliant life.

The $25,000 isn’t a start for Scott, in fact the money put him over the top for his goal, allowing him to donate the $100,000 to the Telethon Kids Institute. Scott has done a great deal to achieve his goal – bear in mind that Scott is only 9. Scott has been fundraising since he was four, by walking 25km into his nearest town, a feat he performed every year until he was seven and moved up to a 41km walk and then a full 42km marathon for the past two years.

Speaking about his win, Scott said :

When I heard I had won I was completely shocked. It made me speechless and that never happens because I’m a chatterbox!! When it sunk in I kept saying ‘wait, what, I won?’ I just couldn’t believe it. I felt so happy and excited when I realised it meant I will reach my One Day I Will goal of raising $100,000 for Telethon by the time I’m 10. I am so relieved I have made it!! It means I will help a lot of sick kids and babies. That means everything to me.

Things aren’t going quiet for Scott any time soon, Scott intends to travel to Canada and hike 82km along the Berg Lake trail in Mt Robson Provincial Park. To help him on his adventures, HTC has sent Scott a HTC One M9 phone to help him reach his fans and inspire others by keeping them up to date with pictures and updates of his adventures.

The aspirational story is also one of the reasons that HTC has decided to repeat their One Day I Will campaign, opening up their htconeday.com website for more entries until January 30, 2016.

Given the window the competition will be open, the new HTC One Day I Will competition will focus on New Year’s resolutions and New Year’s Day. HTC want you to upload your New Year’s Resolution to their site for a chance to share in the grand prize of $25,000 – as well as going into the draw to win one of 30 prizes in 30 days starting on New Years Day.
