The Chinese juggernaut that is Huawei continues to grow, with the company releasing its financial results for 2015 today. Across its three core business groups — Carrier, Enterprise and Consumer, Huawei has generated a combined annual revenue of some US$60.9 billion dollars, with a net profit of around US$5.7 billion. These facts don’t mean much by themselves (though they are impressive), but they do when compared to the year prior — revenue is up 37% on 2014 figures, and profit up 33%.

While Huawei is a privately-held company, it has its annual financial statements independently audited by KPMG, and it releases some of the information publicly.

The results from the three business groups are as follows:

  • Carrier – revenue of $35.8 billion, increase of 21% over last year. Widespread rollout of 4G networks was a significant factor in this figure.
  • Enterprise – revenue of $4.3 billion, representing a 44% increase, driven by rapid growth in public safety, finance, transportation and energy sectors.
  • Consumer – revenue of $19.9 billion, up a whopping 73% over the past year. Huawei attributes this growth directly to the increased demand for its products, said to deliver a premium user experience at a more affordable price, and of course Huawei’s growing influence as a consumer brand.

Of the results, Huawei’s rotating CEO Guo Ping had this to say:

“In part, Huawei owes its long-term growth to the sheer size of the ICT market, which is the driving force of digital economies around the world. However, our growth is also a direct result of strategic focus and heavy investment in our core businesses. Over the next three to five years, we will concentrate on enhancing connectivity, enabling the development of vertical industries, and redefining network capabilities. With an open and collaborative approach, and a commitment to shared success, we will work closely with our customers and partners to maximize industry development opportunities. Together, we will build a Better Connected World.”

Huawei’s star has definitely continued to rise in the realm of Android and mobility, and with the strong results last year with the Nexus 6P, Huawei P8 and others, we’re expecting quite a bit more this year. An even better Nexus perhaps? The Huawei P9 is more certain. What else are they working on?
