Motorola’s June 9th event seems to be getting a few leaks in the lead up, with noted internet leaker Evan Blass showing off some new pictures today on Twitter.

The new leaks show off the rear back panels of the new ‘Droid’ line of phones which usually are sold through US carrier Verizon. The leak shows the rear of the phones in Gold, Silver and Black with the prominent modular port on the rear that’s believed to be getting included on the upcoming Moto X (or maybe Moto Z) handsets.

The port is believed to be able to allow customers to add in modular back panels which add functionality to the devices. Exactly what type of functions, panels and features could be added hasn’t been clear until now, with Evan following up with this tweet of what Evan is calling ‘Moto Mods’:

The obvious one is the camera attachment for the rear, and the middle one, with its extra thick profile could be a larger battery pack – an addition many would welcome. The very bottom one could possibly have a built-in stand, but really there’s not enough details to tell what it’s for.

Whether these will be for the Droid line or for future Moto X (or Z) phones isn’t clear. The mods, if real, would likely be available through the customisable Moto Maker service that Lenovo operates allowing customers to create a highly personalised phone. That service isn’t yet available in Australia – but we have high hopes that Australia may get it this year, but nothing is concrete.

The current rumour is that Lenovo will unveil a new range of Moto phones at their ‘Lenovo World’ event in San Francisco next month on June 9th. Ausdroid will be there to check out what Lenovo is going to announce,so stay tuned for any new information.
