One of the most sought after features for Android Auto is Waze. It’s omission is a strange one considering who owns it (Google) and how many people use it (~50 million users in 2013). It seems that the arrival of Waze on Android Auto, as announced at Google I/O last year, is finally imminent.
It has been rumoured to be coming soon to Android Auto since it was announced and a launch seemed tantalisingly close a couple of months ago when the Maps section of Android Auto had an interface change. Now it seems that it is very close to arriving with invites to join the beta test heading out to some users.
The invite states that they are still in the early phases of beta development but if you would like to participate in the future to fill out the form in the link provided. By filling out the form and joining the Waze Beta Community you are in with a chance to test it out when it does arrive. I have done it so it is not too late. Hopefully some of us get a run although I suspect our location (not USA) may hinder our application.
There is no word on when or how many users will be accepted into the beta program but this signifies that it is close to being ready to go. Hopefully we will see it at Google I/O — along with wireless Android Auto (Wi-Fi projection) and OEM apps please Google.
