Back when the Huawei Watch received Android Wear 2.0 in the form of a beta image everyone expected that it would be one of the first, if not the first, Android Wear watch to be updated to Android Wear 2.0. Unfortunately that was not to be but thanks to a tweet sent out by a Googler working on Android Wear we now know that hurdles have been cleared and it should be coming soon.

Hoi Lam, Googler working on Android Wear over in London, tweeted out that they had had an issue with AW2.0 on the Huawei Watch but they have now squashed that bug. While stopping short of giving an ETA he did say to “hang tight”, which to me, in my most optimistic mode, means it is imminent (I did say I was in optimistic mode).

In the subsequent conversation he goes on to say that they (Google) share some of the responsibility for the delay and they hope to do better next time. Read into that what you wish but I suspect that is a polite way of saying Huawei messed up somehow.

I love my Huawei Watch and cannot wait for the Android Wear 2.0 especially with some reports stating that the update will enable the NFC chip within the watch to allow Android Pay to function with it.

Has your Android Wear watch received the AW2.0 update yet? Do you own one of the newer AW2.0 watches? How do you find it?

My Nixon Mission updated to 2.0 this morning. The upgrade process was… confusing. Lots of security warning messages, and at one point, the upgrade app (running on the phone) completely disappeared. Had to press the task switcher button to bring it back. However, in the end, it worked.

And how is aw2. 0 treating you so far? Do you like the changes?

For me. It’s a big fail. The main reason I have Android wear, is so I can glance at my watch, and see if I have notifications. They have taken this away. You now have to wake the watch, and swipe up.

I just read that I should be seeing small notification icons on my watch face. However, they don’t seem to be showing up for me. I’ve tried a few watch faces. If anyone has any ideas how to get this working, that’d be great!

I’ve never seen NFC mentioned in the specs of the watch. The body of the watch is full stainless as well. Surely it’s a made up rumor?

Possibly. It was news to me too… Wasn’t written on April Fools day was it?
