Google search is getting a neat update for users in the US, adding in the option to search for activities and events to the Google App and mobile web.

It works by polling a number of events based sites such as Eventbrite, Meetup and more when you search for specific events such as “jazz concerts in Austin,” or “art events this weekend”. Results show up in a list with options to further narrow down your search by “today”, “tomorrow”, “next week”, “next weekend” etc. Once you’ve found the event you want, you can then tap on it to get more information or order tickets.

For a more local search, you could enter in “events near me” to find something going on in your local area.

Google hasn’t said anything about rolling this out to further markets, but Meetup and Eventbrite certainly have an Australian presence so it’s conceivable it could arrive here…eventually.
