It’s rare we’re ahead of the world for releases here in Australia but Spotify is testing a new music app called Stations by Spotify which gives users a list of curated music stations they can listen to without any fuss.
The app is available now in Google Play, and you won’t need to pay for the Spotify Premium subscription to access the list of curated music stations. The app is totally free according to the Google Play listing which was first spotted by Variety, and is being tested as an experiment here in Australia ahead of a broader launch.
The app will apparently learn by watching what you listen to, with the description stating ‘As you listen, it learns what you like and creates personalised stations that you’ll love’ – sounds interesting.
After downloading the app, it looks very basic but easy to use. You do need to sign in with either an existing Spotify account (you can sign up within the app or use a Facebook account. It’s pretty easy to select a playlist and from there it just starts playing.
You can try it out for yourself now by heading over to Google Play if you’re in Australia, or heading to APKMirror if you’re not.
Spoke to a rep from Optus. Unfortunately this app won’t count towards the ‘data free streaming’ that Spotify/Pandora/Google Play Music does.
So you might want to use this on wifi (unless you have generous data inclusions).
