Following the announcement of the Nest Cam IQ gaining Google Assistant integration this morning, it appears that Nest is now selling the camera in Australia.
Announced in May last year, the Nest Cam IQ is their first ‘smart’ camera with the ability to recognise faces and then send an alert to the Nest app on your phone to let you know who is walking around your house. This smart ability requires a ‘Nest Aware’ subscription which starts at $7/month ($120 per year), with 5-day video history, or there are more expensive options depending on how long you want to store your video.
The Nest Cam IQ includes an 8MP 4K sensor with HDR and 12x digital zoom, though it won’t record in 4K. Instead the Nest Cam IQ has something called ‘Supersight’ which effectively allows it to zoom in on sections of the video at 1080p resolution.
The camera includes a 3-microphone array so you can hear what’s going on, and a built-in high-quality speaker so you can speak back to whomever is in your home. It’s got built-in 940 nm infrared LEDs so you can see what’s happening no matter what time of day or night there’s an alert.

In terms of availability it appears that iSelect has again picked up the exclusive for the Australian launch with the camera selling for a hefty $479. You can certainly get it a lot cheaper if you want to grab a direct import from Kogan who have the camera selling for $349 + shipping.
So, there is no “Free” tier? (i.e monitor on phone but store locally)
If so I agree with @Joshua Ferguson, complete waste
How about instead of the ridiculous subscription prices they give the option of uploading to Google drive. I looked at these and there is no way on earth I would buy or recommend these, far, far to expensive in the long run. Especially compared to something like the Netaatmo which does it for free!
