Facebook is continuing to improve support for multimedia in Messenger, today adding support for 360-degree photos, as well as HD Quality Video in Messenger.
While 360-degree photos aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, they do add extra dimension to a photo allowing people to really immerse themselves in a memory, or share a moment with friends, family and loved ones. Support for 360-degree photos will show up in your Messenger feed, and are identifiable by a compass icon sitting in the right-hand side of a panoramic photo. Tap that and you can then swipe around to see what’s going on all around.
The update today also supports adding in HD Video in Messenger chats, remembering that HD Video is only 720p resolution. Messenger users can add HD videos to Messenger right from their camera roll, allowing a higher quality video to show off a special moment. HD Videos will show a HD/SD option in the lower right hand corner when viewing the video in full screen mode, allowing you to switch easily depending on your internet connection.
The support for 360-degree video is rolling out worldwide now, but HD Video is only heading to a select few countries – which includes Australia, as well as Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the US. Users will be able to access both HD Video and 360-degree photos on both iOS and Android apps.
