After months of speculation it seems the rumours of a Pixel Watch have been laid to rest by Google during an interview at IFA.
Google’s director of engineering for Wear OS, Mike Barr confirmed in an interview with TomsGuide that company has ‘no plans to release a smartwatch this year’. Further, Mr Barr said ‘To think of a one-size-fits-all watch, I don’t think we’re there yet. Our focus is on our partners for now’.
Google has done quite well with farming out the Wear OS platform to third parties, with fashion brands jumping on the platform quite readily with IFA recently showing even more watches from Skagen, and Diesel, as well as two recent releases from Fossiland also Mobvoi with the TicWatch Pro.
The concept of a Pixel Watch first surfaced in May, when noted leaker Evan Blass tweeted

This was followed up with information from Roland Quandt of WinFuture.de who found information relating to not one, but three Pixel Watches codenamed “Ling”, “Triton” and “Sardine”.
The new watches were said to be using Qualcomms upcoming new Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform which is expected to be announced at an event on September 10th.
We’re a bit disappointed with this news, but it is what it is. After September 10th we’re hoping to see a raft of new watches announced over the coming months, with rumours of a Huawei Watch 3 floating around which could surface at Mobile World Congress next year.
