There’s something strange in your neighbourhood, or at least there soon will be with Augmented Reality (AR) game Ghostbusters World now open for pre-registration.

The game which is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Ghost Corps and publisher FourThirtyThree Inc. will see you team up with all your favourite characters from the original two movies including Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore and more using Google’s ARCore and Google Maps as the basis for a new Augmented Reality game.

The game will see you traversing your neighbourhood tracking down and capturing ghosts and spirits from the films, TV shows, comic books, and video games, as well as brand-new ghosts created for the game. You can also train your own ghost busting squad in a story mode written and illustrated by the creative team behind the IDW comic book series.

With the Map-based, Augmented Reality nature of the game, and the aim to catch and collect ghosts, as well as teaming up to take down bosses like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man it’s easy to draw comparisons with Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go has been an absolute powerhouse for Niantic Labs, and has a massive following around the world. It will be interesting to see if this game makes a dent when it launches.

Ghostbusters World is due to launch later this year, and if you want to be notified when it’s live you can head over to Google Play and pre-register now.

There are a lot of these types of games springing up. I have seen ones based on Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead as well.
