Domino’s Australia has announced that an app update has begun to roll out to both iOS and Android devices bringing the ability for users to become their own pizza chef thanks to Augmented Reality (AR).

The app update gives customers a real-time experience creating their own pizza combination through the Domino’s app on their mobile device leveraging Google’s AR Core and Apple’s AR Kit augmented reality frameworks.

Domino’s Group Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Michael Gillespie, has said

“Google’s ARCore and Apple’s ARKit uses the phone’s camera to provide stable, advanced spatial awareness and an understanding of the real world around our customers. Enabling them to see their dream pizza steaming right in front of them and viewed from any angle,”

The AR Pizza creation feature will allow customers to ‘visually create their favourite pizza by dragging toppings onto a virtual pizza, selecting their preferred crust, sauce, cheese and swirls and see it being created first-hand’ says Domino’s Group Chief Marketing Officer, Allan Collins

The use of ARCore and ARKit in their app is in line with Dominos commitment to utilising the latest technology trends to both improve their service, and delivery to the customer including the use of drones, implementing Chromecast and Android Wear support into their app and their excellent GPS Driver Tracker technology.

If you’ve got a hankering for a Dominos Pizza, or just want to try the feature out you can download the app from Google Play now.
