Huawei is one company that in the past has been criticised for their lack of Android version updates to their phones, even flagships. Acting on a new promise to do better Huawei are beginning to roll out the latest version of Android to some of their recent flagships.

The Huawei Mate 20 lineup arrived with Android Pie onboard and now they are rolling out Android 9.0 with EMUI 9 on top to their flagships from the last 12 or so months. Over in Europe users are noticing the Android 9.0 update rolling out to their P20, P20 Pro and Mate 10 devices.

At the same time they have released a list of phones that will be receiving the update in the coming weeks. Included in the list are the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20 and P20 Pro all of the Asia Pacific region — last time we checked Australia is within the Asia Pacific region but we have reached out to Huawei to confirm a time frame for when our devices will begin to receive it.

If you have one of the above eligible phones you can apply for the update by heading into their HiCare app, select your country (Australia or NZ), agree to the user agreement and privacy notice. Then proceed into update and request the update, apply this and it will check for the new system update. Download, install and enjoy Android 9.0 Pie (and EMUI 9) and all the goodness that it brings.

If you want to check out the added functionality of EMUI 9 you can check out the video below:

Let us know in the comments below when you begin to receive the update and your thoughts on it. In the meantime we will chase up Huawei for an official word on the arrival of Android Pie on their devices here in Australia.

A quick search reveals they’ve been quite good with security patches, and Android 8.0 has been released for P9

You won’t get any update if you use Optus as it’s controlled by them.

Check out the optus forum and you can see there is none for us this month.

Any word on the update for Mate 9? I’m right at the end of the contract for mine with Voda and will likely go for a OP6 on SIM only, but it would still be nice to hear whether it’s coming or not.
