It’s been a jam packed Google I/O with many well known Google products gaining air time. So far though there hasn’t been much of a focus on its TV streaming software, Android TV. Overnight Google revealed new numbers regarding Android TV, as well as details about the Android Q update.

Speaking with Variety, Google seemingly confirmed that the Android TV won’t be seeing the Q update anytime soon. However, given that Android Pie is yet to hit any Android TV it’s no real shock for the delay.

Shalini Govil-Pai, Google’s Head of Android TV, has explained to Variety that the platform needs not
necessarily need to be on the same timeline. Google has also confirmed that over 80% of Android TV devices are running on Nougat and above, with 60% adoption of Android Oreo expected by the end of this year alone — which does not seem incredibly impressive.

Furthermore, Variety have reported that Google have confirmed further numbers stating that Android TV’s huge collection of 5,000 apps has approximately 70-75% US customer reach showing that their use is continuing to grow.

We will be keeping an eye out for any further updates regarding the Android TV Q update — even Pie would be nice.
