Amazon has a new device in its Echo family available in Australia today – a cute little Alexa-powered display called the Echo Show 5.
We’ve seen standard, mini and maxi speakers and regular size screens, now it’s time to move in to the new assistant battlefield – mini screens. At $129, the Echo Show 5 squares off directly against Lenovo’s Smart Clock.
Echo Show 5, announced just a few weeks ago, features a 5.5-inch 16:9 display, HD camera with shutter and the same rear speaker technology as its well-received forbear. It’s intended to fit in spaces where the main Echo Show with its 10-inch screen doesn’t. This makes it perfect for your desktop or bedside table.
The device features the same software features, including Amazon’s own “drop in” Echo-to-Echo video calling, Skype integration, home control and helpful Alexa skills. Of course, with the device eyeing your bedside table there’s support for customising the time display and alarm clocks.
Amazon is pretty happy with their entertainment play, with Prime Video, Amazon Music and Audible all represented on the device along with Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and more. They’re also specifically calling out the new Pocket Casts podcast integration as well.
There’s an updated home screen design that’s helpful to new users and also guides others through the device’s features with easy access to routines and more.
You can pick up an Echo Show 5 from Amazon now (they start shopping today) for $129. There’s a magnetic stand to give you some ejection and adjustable viewing angles at $30 as well. It’s currently listed on JB Hi-fi’s website, and should be coming to Officeworks.
