If you were born too late to remember the boombox, Bose has just (kind of) brought it back with its new portable speaker.
The Bose Portable Home Speaker is a cylindrical speaker with a convenient carrying handle for moving around the house, or blasting the latest tracks on the way to the block party. The IPX4 rating means it’s safe in the event of a spill or mild drop as well.
There’s a good range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with support for AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect.
With a huge 12 hour battery life, the Bose Portable Home Speaker lasts long enough for even the latest of nights spent on the lawn annoying the neighbours. It’s also Bose’s first ever speaker with an inbuilt rechargeable battery. Recharging is handled over USB-C or an optional extra charging cradle (which it sits on kind of like a cordless kettle sits on its base).
The speaker offers voice control that works with your preference of either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Backup physical buttons are featured on top for play/pause, skipping tracks, connecting Bluetooth, and muting the microphones.
If you’ve already got other Bose products, the Portable Home Speaker is able to pair with them for multi-room audio, or pair with a second Portable Home Speaker for stereo sound.
Pricing is set for $499.95 locally, and the speakers are available for pre-order currently with the official launch date set for 26th September.
That’s no boombox. A boombox would dwarf that Bose squeaker.
