To mark the importance of World Sight Day Google has unveiled their new Voice Guidance feature for walking directions in Google Maps. Voice Guidance annotates the world via audio description ,adding rich auditory information about the users navigation path to their destination.
The enhanced guidance provides cure about distance, upcoming turns and any specific geographical information that would help a visually impaired person, or anyone, navigate through the real world environment. Developed in conjunction with a team at Google and people with visual implements nothing tells the storey better than this video.
It’s great to see Google to continue to invest in various accessibility technologies and experiments. With Technology improving the ease of living for so many people it is essential that tech companies ensure that they are working to create technologies that will enhance the lives of everyone especially people living with disabilities.
Today Voice guidance is launching in English in the United States and Japanese in Japan, more languages and countries will roll-out in the future. To activate voice guidance simply select a destination for navigation, select walking and there will be a new option to enable “Detailed voice guidance”. That’s it you’ll now receive more details and and helpful guidance instructions.
