Earlier this week we saw renewed rumours about a smartwatch coming from Xiaomi and at that stage, it was expected to be a Wear OS device, but now it looks like that’s not so certain.

Xiaomi hasn’t stopped their teases with the Chinese OEM releasing several more teasers including a shot of the exterior of the device, confirmation of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC and a montage of the UI. What’s interesting is that’s not the Wear OS UI, at all.

Alongside these teases a video of the new UI has made its way onto the Chinese social media site Weibo, and again this is definitely not WearOS and based on some of the features wouldn’t even bee built on top of it. So here’s the question? Are there 2 variants coming, a Wear OS version for the west and a version for the Asian market?

Code comments were found in the Wear OS app for Android that specifically mentions a Mi watch, so Xiaomi certainly was working on a device at some point, so it’s not out of the realms of possibility that there are two versions.

Just as likely however is that the Wear OS version of the Mi watch was scrapped. I guess we’ll just have to wait around and see.
