OnePlus have always shied away from wireless charging stating that it wasn’t as fast as their wired charging and thus not required. Now that 30W wireless charging is available that excuse no longer holds in OnePlus’ case (unless they increase their charging speeds this year) and after rumours were pointing towards it being included this year we half expect it to even though the CEO sort of denies it.

Well, guess who just joined the Wireless Power Consortium? Yep, a small Chinese company called OnePlus. OnePlus’ sister-company OPPO joined the WPC last year and launch 30W wireless charging — coincidence? I think not. With WPC managing the Qi wireless charging standard usually a company joins it before implementing wireless charging in their devices. It stands to reason then that OnePlus are set to do the same thing.

The OnePlus 8 is set to be one of the best specced devices of 2020 with an amazing 120Hz display, Snapdragon 865 and every other high end spec you could dream of. Add in 30W wireless charging and I’m sold. While this is no confirmation of the inclusion of wireless charging coming in the OnePlus 8 I’m calling it now. all signs point to yes. I thought so the other day and I feel even more strongly about it now. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

One thing’s for sure, OnePlus have become the masters of slowly hyping their devices up before release by announcing features in the build up. There is no doubt they will hint at wireless charging sometime between now and its release if they are in fact including it.
