With under a week until the Made By Google event, once again we know just about everything about the Pixel phones to be released. This time we even know what price the phones will be starting at but we don’t know the price of the main Pixel, the Pixel 5.

We already know that the Pixel 4a 5G will start at $799 according to the Google Store but we do not know where the Pixel 5 will sit in the price range. We do know that the US price for the Pixel 4a 5G starts at US$499. Now we have seen a rumour/leak suggestive of the US Pixel 5 pricing:

Of course allowing for Australia tax etc there is no direct line to the price but we can extrapolate the price differences in the US Pixel 4a 5G to the Australian Pixel 4a 5G to the Pixel 5 price.

Assuming the above leak is correct and the Pixel 5 5G does cost US$699 then that would mean the Australian Pixel 5 5G will set you back AU$1,150 — we rounded up to the nearest $50 because, well, Australia tax.

An interesting thought though is that Jon refers to the Pixel 5 as the Pixel 5 5G — does that mean we will see both a Pixel 5 (4G) and a Pixel 5 5G? This would mean that a Pixel 5 price would fall into the large gap between the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 5G. Am I reading too much into this? I dare say I am but it would explain the large difference in pricing from the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 5G.

What do you think? Do you think/hope there is a Pixel 5 at a cheaper price than this “Pixel 5 5G”? Is AU$1,150 too much for what is ostensibly a mid-range smartphone?

Hmmmm. It’ll be $999 aud.

numerous deals on the FE atm. In some cases you can enjoy the big big discounts and the still get the galaxy buds live. Price is gonna be important but just as crucial is whether google will carry enough stock

Chris

It’ll be $599 USD because it’ll be DOA at $699 as that’s the price of the 20 FE 5G. We saw Google undercut the iPhone SE. We’ll see the same thing here.

No way will they go the same price as the Samsung which is technically better in every way bar RAM.

I would put money on $899 here, considering the 4a 5G is $799.

Samsung S20 FE Has 8Gb RAM. It’s the same amount as rumoured Pixel 5.

With all the leaks and information leading up to this, I doubt very much that there will be a 4g and 5g variant. Don’t forget that the 5g components are built into the 765 SOC. To offer a 4g variant would mean using another SOC, which we’ve heard nary a peep about. This pricing to me is still very disappointing and for the first time in my mobile phone life, I’m actually looking forward to the iPhone 12 mini announcement for a compact phone. I’ll definitely be doing a price comparison then.

I’d put money on it Samsung has a clue how much the pixels will cost 😄.
The fan edition S20 models are on pre order starting at $999 for the 4g models ranging up to $1249 for the 5g Snapdragon models.
Interesting times ahead 😎.

Take anything from Prosser with a truck load of salt. He’s wrong way more than he’s right

I think you’re reading too much into it!
On cost, the Australia tax hasn’t been nearly so pronounced in the last couple of years for Google hardware. I’m getting a spot rate conversion of 996 atm plus GST that could mean it comes in at 1099. At which price it’s still disappointingly far too high considering the mid range hardware. I had high hopes given the 4a was pretty competitively priced.
