As rumoured in February Amazon Australia is finally selling the Fire TV Stick 4K as Fire TV Stick and the all-new Alexa Voice Remote. With Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) rising in popularity during COVID lockdown Amazon decided to let Australians buy the 4K version of their Fire TV streaming video device.
Until now Amazon has only sold its basic model Fire TV stick in Australia which is capable of HD video streaming. Since the vast majority of TV’s bought by Australians are 4K, so it makes sense to plug in a streaming video device that is also 4K capable. The Fire TV Stick 4K and the new Fire TV Stick 1080P both give you access to popular apps and content such as Netflix, Stan, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, ABC iView, 10 Play, and more.
With Alexa on Fire TV, users can check the weather, their calendar, ask for visual search results, control lights, smart plugs, and other compatible smart home devices. It is generally agreed amongst the Ausdroid team that Alexa is better at controlling a wider range of smart home devices than Google, which is better at providing search results and personalised answers about your calendar etc.

Let us know in the comments you’ll order one or whether you prefer a Chromecast Ultra
Recently picked up an CC Ultra and love it, can’t see how this could beat it. I’ve been using chromecast ever since Ausdroid first reported that Amazon were mistakenly shipping to Aus soon after it launched.
its the old 4k stick model that released in 2018 with a new remote
they didnt update the hardware ! this is ridiculous
i hope they release the fire tv cube 4k as it got hexa core cpu and its double the speed and faster than fire tv stick 4k
the fire tv stick 4k got two issues
so amazon released the old 2018 model 4k stick from usa to australia and put a new remote and didnt update the hardware
another thing the fire tv os in general is missing three important aussie apps
bing app
kayo sports
foxtel now
so all foxtel apps are missing
if you want foxtel apps you have to buy chromecast with google tv
its disappointing that they didnt bother put more ram or 16gb memory
its just the old 4k stick the 2018 model
Yeap, no Kayo means no sale for me regardless of the price and hardware specs.
Surely the ChromeCast with Google TV is still king of the TV stick jungle! The interface is brilliant. The more Apps integrate into the interface, the better the raw selections are. If you aren’t using the watchlist feature in Google search that integrates with it, you are missing out! The suggestions just get better and better as time goes on!
Totally agree, Phillip. I love the ChromeCast with Google TV.
