If you like getting off the beaten track a bit, or if you just fancy a bit of extra protection, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Lifeproof. They’re expanding their Fre range, which already provides cases for phones like the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6S, to include the LG G5. Made in conjunction with LG as part of the “Made for LG” program, the Lifeproof Fre LG G5 is available for $99.95.

This might seem a bit steep, when it comes to a phone case, but considering the value of the phone its protecting, it’s probably not a bad idea. In terms of features, here’s what you get: the Lifeproof Fre can protect your phone from “frigid water, coarse sand and sticky mud and hard hits with legendary protection”. In terms of water immersion, Lifeproof claims that the LG G5 will survive for up to an hour in up to two metres of water, when wearing the Fre case, and those amorphous military spec shock and impact protection standards are built-in, too.

The Fre functions as a standard case, too, blocking out scratches with a built-in screen protector, and a reflective optical-glass lens cover and sound enhancement system, which is code for “you can still take great photos and hear what your phone is doing” even with a waterproof case like this fitted.

We’re hoping to take one of these on a bit of adventure next week, so we’ll report back how the Fre stands up!
