Samsung will be holding their annual developer conference in San Francisco next week and it’s expected to open up a slew of new features for developers interested in integrating their features into Samsung’s platforms including Bixby, plus lots more.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Samsung will open up access to Bixby to third party developers as they attempt to claw back the heady lead from other companies including Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and of course Google Assistant.
The access to Bixby will include what’s described as Alexa like Skills, similar to Google Assistant applications which Samsung calls ‘capsules’. According to ‘people familiar with the matter’ who spoke to the WSJ
Samsung will outline how developers can create functions, which it calls “capsules,” that are akin to the “skills” that Amazon’s Alexa assistant has, such as ordering pizza or hailing taxis with a voice command.
As well as these new software features, Samsung is also talking hardware with more expected to be unveiled about their Bixby powered Galaxy Home smart speaker which they showed off during the announcement of the Galaxy Note 9 back in August.

Samsung will also share more details about a foldable-screen smartphone it is developing, showcasing features of the tablet-sized handset, such as the simultaneous use of three apps, according to the people, though those plans haven’t been finalized.
The Samsung Developer Conference takes place on November 7 and 8, and we’ll be watching with keen interest.
