There’s no getting away from the fact that Android Wear is just hot right now. Android Wear releases are coming thick and fast due to an easy to implement update to existing Android apps, the latest to join the Android Wear revolution is the now Facebook owned chat platform WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is without doubt a massively popular cross platform chat app, with 500,000 users it’s certainly got the numbers to make a claim for one of the most popular chat programs in the world. Of course with Android now claiming to be on 85% of mobile devices, it’s natural to assume that many people using the app to chat with friends and family across the world are using it on Android, so with Android Wear rolling out, it’s no wonder they’ve updated with features to support the new platform.
WhatsApp notifications for Android Wear have been pretty limited so far, they show up, but the notification simply shows who said something and the swipe to the left simply allowed you to open the app on your phone. Now, if you want to side-load the WhatsApp Android app from their site, you can enjoy a whole host of Android Wear related updates, such as stacked notifications, full preview of messages and the ability to reply to a chat from your wrist.
The update will of course need to be side-loaded, so you’ll have to allow ‘install from unknown sources’ in your security settings, or you can wait for the update to appear in your Google Play updates list in the coming weeks. Either way, you’ll be getting some Android Wear goodies soon.
