The latest Android Wear update has begun rolling out to wrists around the world, with a number of models already seeing the update. Motorola has announced that their Moto 360 has also begun receiving the update, a fact confirmed by former Ausdroider Lucas this morning, and has added a little more info on what you’ll see in the update on their support site.
The Motorola support site has the full release notes, adding that they’ve added support for new features and fixed some issues to improve your experience in this release. So, what’s in the update?
Interactive Watch Faces | Interactive watch faces make it easier to stay connected. With just a tap on your watch face, you can change its design, reveal more information, or even launch a specific app. You can download interactive watch faces from Play Store. To set up, touch and hold on the current watch face, then scroll left/right to select the one you just downloaded. You can also select it from the Android Wear phone app. |
Together Watch Face |
Two Android Wear users can stay close throughout the day by turning their entire watch face into a space for sharing. Once you’ve paired your watch face with a partner’s, you’ll be able to share things like photos and emojis, and more. To set up, touch and hold on the current watch face, then scroll left/right to find the Together watch face. You can also select it from the Android Wear phone app. |
Google Translate for Wear |
Translate a conversation into any of the 44 available languages, then flip your wrist to show the translation to someone else. When they respond in their own language, flip your wrist back, and you’ll see in a translation of what they’ve just said. The watch must be connected to a phone with internet access via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. |
Weather Microapp | Shows current weather conditions and four-day forecast for your current location. To open the weather microapp, swipe left on the watch face, then scroll down and tap Weather. |
Privacy improvement for notifications | Your notifications won’t show in full screen until the watch is oriented in a way that only you can see it. This feature prevents others from reading an incoming notification when your watch screen is pointed away from you. |
Bug Fixes | A variety of system optimizations to improve performance and stability. |
The update process has begun, but should take a few days to complete, Motorola has listed the steps for you to complete the update on your watch, adding that once you’re on the latest version – you can’t downgrade. The obvious pre-requisite is that your watch must be connected to your phone (with an internet connection) and you should have at least 80% charge. Then, once you get a notification that the update has been received, simply follow these steps:
- Swipe left in the System update screen.
- Touch “Open”.
- Select Yes under “Ready to install?”.
- After the software is installed, your Moto 360 will restart automatically.
- Your watch is now updated with LCA44B
The latest update has a great Together feature, though the watch face is a little bland. Perhaps it’s time to make sure your significant other has an Android Wear watch as well, those Moto 360 gen 1 models are starting to go pretty cheap.
there is also a new feature built into the music controller. it has a new section called browse and it works perfectly with spotify! it allows you to go and select your playlist straight from your watch. i love this update but the only issue i have is when you push the side button to bring up the apps. you have to hold for about 3 seconds for the apps to appear. it takes too long.
Just swipe from the right edge to the left to open the apps list…it’s quicker than the button.
Anyone in Aus got the new weather app working? Just gives error for me.
Doesn’t work for me either.

OK finally works now 🙂
