Huawei Ascend P6 Australian launch – $499, July 16

This morning, Ausdroid attended the local launch of Huawei's new Ascend P6 handset at their offices in Chatswood, NSW where we heard from Product Manager Jephix Liu about the device. The headline news is that the device will be available at JB Hifi and Dick Smith stores in either black or white for $499. Notably, Australia won't be getting the pink version of the phone. Somehow, I think we'll survive. While the occasion had a lot less pomp and circumstance than other recent launches we've attended, it was a good opportunity to meet with Huawei's Australian staff... Huawei announce the Ascend P6 smartphone – coming to Australia in July

Huawei has just announced their newest Ascend smartphone - the Ascend P6 - at their press event in London. The Ascend P6 continues the road towards the premium end of the Smartphone range for Huawei, that they began with the Ascend P1. With the Ascend P6, Huawei have concentrated on the design, camera, and user interface. With those cornerstone features in mind Huawei have delivered the Ascend P6 with an 8MP Rear Camera & an industry leading 5MP Front-facing camera that includes auto facial-enhancing capabilities for those all important 'selfies. For design, the Ascend P6 comes in a mighty... Continue reading

Huawei Ascend Mate — Review

Can Huawei compete in an increasingly crowded super-sized phone market? A lot of our time at Ausdroid is spent paying attention to the top tier of Android device manufacturers - while Samsung is doubtless the heavyweight of the Android world, you'd almost certainly include HTC and LG as peers. Below that, there exists a broad second tier, where other manufacturers toil away without the mindshare, design, manufacturing, marketing or technical prowess that characterises that top tier. It's here where we usually find Huawei, despite its best intentions - while it's a networking technology heavyweight with a rich (and occasionally controversial)... Continue reading

Specs for the Huawei Ascend P6 leak with screenshots of an updated Emotion UI

The hype surrounding the Huawei Ascend P6 has been mounting ahead of a June 18th release date, with a picture and video about the phone being released yesterday. Today, EVLeaks has released specs on what will be inside the device as well as providing screenshots of an updated Emotion UI that the device will run. Hardware wise, there are two sources; EVLeaks advises that the Ascend P6 will come with a 4.7" 720p display, powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-Core CPU - presumably the Huawei designed and manufactured K3V2 - and come with an 8MP BSI Rear camera with 4cm macro... Huawei teases upcoming Ascend P6 with a picture and video

Huawei have taken to the internet to hype up their upcoming Ascend P6 release in London. From the obscure photo we can see that the device is going to be quite thin, quite white, and have quite a disgusting looking UI -- dubbed 'Emotion UI'. As for the video, it features a lot of parkour and dubstep and not a lot of Ascend P6. Huawei's CEO, Richard Yu, recently spoke of the Ascend P6 and its use of side buttons. "You know, after using the P6 more and more, I've begun to notice how nice the side keys were designed... Continue reading

Telstra refreshes Pre-Paid handset range adds LG, Huawei, Samsung and HTC handsets

Telstra has had a pretty solid range of Pre-Paid mobile phones for a while, but it was getting a little old and it appears they've decied to refresh the models available. They now offer 4 handsets from manufacturers LG, Huawei, Samsung and HTC. The handsets are nothing terribly fancy, however they do include the updated Optimus L3 II, the second iteration of the L-Series handsets from LG. They've also added a nicely priced Huawei handset running Android 4.1 as well as a Samsung Galaxy handset named the Young. By far the most notable addition to their range is... Continue reading

New Huawei phone spotted in China – world’s thinnest smartphone

A new phone manufactured by Huawei, known only by the identifier 'P6-U06' has made an appearance before the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Centre, the Chinese version of America's FCC, which French blog NowhereElse are tipping as the Ascend P6. According to its specifications, the P6-U06 is said to be the world's thinnest smartphone, at only 6.18mm thick. It will have a 4.7-inch 1280x720 TFT display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 5 megapixel camera and 32GB of internal storage. It also appears that the device will have support for dual sims, a feature usually reserved for the Asian... Continue reading

Huawei launches the Ascend Mate

Huawei held a press briefing event in Sydney this morning to take the wraps off its new smartphone, the Ascend Mate. Huawei reminded us that they're always pushing technology forward - their equipment is running fixed-line and wireless phone services, DSL and Wi-fi connectivity here in Australia, and they always want to push newer technology out to consumers at affordable prices - to "Make It Possible", as the company tag line goes. Although they only came to Australia in force in 2010, this is actually their 10th year in the phone space. We've previously covered the well-named (for our market,... Continue reading

Huawei Ascend Mate set for launch next week

Huawei has begun sending out invites to the launch of a new phone next week and from the looks of the size of the phone pictured we're willing to bet that the phone is the Huawei Ascend Mate. Announced back at CES in January this year the Ascend Mate certainly pushes the boundaries when it comes to both screen size and Battery. The Ascend Mate comes with a massive 6.1" display which incorporates 'Magic Touch', a technology that allows for users to still operate the phone even when wearing gloves, certainly something to think about with winter coming... Huawei announce the Ascend P2 at Mobile World Congress

Huawei has kicked off the press announcements for Mobile World Congress with an announcement of their new Ascend P2. The new phone is running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but skinned with the Emotion UI that we've heard about previously, an unfortunate step in terms of going away from the mostly stock interface that they have enjoyed previously. Hardware wise the phone is fairly decent however the Huawei has bucked the trend of most manufacturers with the Ascend P2 by supplying the phone with a screen that isn't a 1080P resolution instead going for a 4.7" 1280x720 resolution 'Infinity Pool'... Huawei shows off their teaser for MWC 2013

I literally have no idea what Huawei is alluding to with this teaser, but here it is. This teaser picture was released yesterday by the Huawei Twitter feed, the image shows something between two boulders, with the tag line 'Man Holds Options Only To Thin Them Down To One.' - I am going to make the leap here and postulate that Huawei is going to be showing off something thin. In the bottom corner there is a slogan that also says Possibilities made possible February 24th. Given that MWC runs from the 25th to the 28th of February, it... Continue reading
