Huawei Ascend P6 to get KitKat in January in China

Huawei has announced on their EmotionUI web page that the Chinese domestic version of the Ascend P6 will be updated from Android 4.2 Jellybean straight to Android 4.4 KitKat in January. At this stage we don’t know if there will be an international update rolled out, but it certainly looks promising. We reviewed the Ascend P6 back in August, and were certainly impressed with this very stylish and ultra slim mid range device. It’s currently available in Australia through Dick Smith and JB Hi-Fi for around $480. The specifications of the P6 are: 4.7-inch HD in-cell LCD screen 1.5GHz quad-core[Read More...]

Ausdroid Podcast 82 – August 13, 2013

Welcome to the 82nd episode of the Ausdroid podcast! This week Jason was joined by Phil and Dan. We spent a little while going over the unfolding ispONE situation which looks like it could affect many Australian prepaid MVNO users, then talked about the LG G2 which Dan and Jason were lucky enough to try out in person last week. We also discussed HTC‘s (ill advised?) #HTChange campaign, and looked at Huawei‘s press release about the ABC’s lack of Android support for iView. At the chat room’s prompting, we also ended up talking very briefly about finance apps (and our[Read More...]

Huawei Ascend P6 — Review

Huawei Ascend P6 — Review

The Huawei Ascend P6 looks the goods, but Ausdroid takes a look to see whether it delivers. When Huawei announced the Ascend P6 back in June, it didn’t exactly jump off the page at us. Sure, the Ascend P6 looks pretty good; in fact, the industrial design is really top notch. A slim (and we do mean slim) handset with a metal band wrapped around it, broken in places only by a couple of buttons, and one could be forgiven for thinking the Ascend P6 is inspired by Apple’s iPhone 4 or iPhone 5 design. It certainly looks like one[Read More...]

Small Android tablets gain whilst Apple’s buzz fades

Small Android tablets gain whilst Apple’s buzz fades

Whilst Apple may have captured the early buzz with the tablet market when they introduced the original iPad, it seems their share of the tablet market has begun to fade according to research released by Canalys.
