Google’s Together watchface that lets you pair your watchface with a friend to allow you to share doodles, emojis, photos, and activities you’re up to, right from your watch face is shutting down on September 30th, advising that the impending Android Wear 2.0 release will mirror most functions.
Android Wear owners who are using the Together Watchface, that was introduced only a year ago in August 2015 with a bunch of other updates, are being notified by the Android Wear app that the watchface will reach end of life due to the impending release of Android Wear 2.0. The notification leads to this screen which explains that many of the functions of the Together watchface will soon be available in Android Wear 2.0:
Google announced the Android Wear 2.0 update at Google I/O back in May, the update will bring a lot more functionality to Android Wear including a keyboard, handwriting recognition, the ability to add complications (the widgets on your watchfaces) from apps to any compatible watch face and a heap of Google Fit updates.
The Android Wear 2.0 update is based on Android 7.0 (Nougat) so the release is tied to the launch of the latest version of Android. When that will be hasn’t been announced, but the rumours point to a release this month.
If you’ve been using the Together Watchface, then its time to start looking at alternatives.
