You can almost smell the Pixel 3 stock arriving with sales on the previous generation phone starting in earnest. Today the 64GB Pixel 2 XL has taken a price cut at JB Hifi to just $999.

The phone is normally priced at $1,399 RRP, so that’s a $400 discount. JB Hifi has the phone available in both Just Black and Black and White (Stormtrooper) colour options for the same price. The Pixel 2 has been receiving a fair bit of mentions these days with the phone’s camera being compared rather favourably against the newly released iPhone range. It’s also got at least another platform update and another two years of security updates coming before it falls by the wayside.

Internally, the phone is still rather well specced with a 6″ 2880×1440 resolution pOLED display with a Snapdragon 835 processor, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage. The 12MP camera on the rear will last you a while with unlimited backups to Google Photos in full, uncompressed resolution, and the 8MP front-facing camera offers excellent portrait mode shots using Google’s much vaunted machine learning to achieve the effect.

The Australian Google Store is still selling the phone for $1,399, so if you’re wanting a Google phone of this size, with updates still to come but without the expected notch in the screen then this is a pretty good option.
