When I predicted a few days ago that ALDI Australia would soon be selling 4K TV’s powered by LG Web OS I didn’t realise just how soon!

ALDI has announced their upcoming special buys for March 17th 2021 and they include a BAUHN 70″ 4K Ultra HD Smart TV with LG Web OS 5.0 (one version older than 2021 LG TV’s) and the same Magic Remote that LG TV’s get.

All the standard TV features are there such as:

  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160
  • Popular apps including: Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video. At this point unconfirmed but some catch up apps like 7Plus, Kayo and Disney+ may be missing.
  • HDR – High Dynamic Range
  • 4K – Ultra High Definition
  • REC – Record Live TV to USB
  • ARC – Audio Return Channel

At $799 for a 70″ inch 4K TV don’t expect it to look as good as the latest models from LG, Sony, Hisense etc, they cost several hundred dollars more for a reason.

For example ALDI TV’s will have a lower refresh rate than more premium brands so fast moving action and sport won’t be as clear to see but if you mostly watch drama, reality TV and news etc that won’t matter as much to you.

Will ALDI’s switch from Android TV to LG Web OS impact your decision to purchase their special buys?

If you do plan on buying this new model make sure you borrow a van or other vehicle with plenty of space and take at least one strong friend with you because a 70″ inch TV is both heavy and really big to carry.

$50 chromecast ultra fixes that

Can you tell us where the Ultra is $50? I wouldn’t mind a couple to replace some Gen 1’s over at the folks. Gen 3’s are $49 on special right now but I can’t see any Ultra sales.
