It’s a move that’s caused angst among many buyers but Google has followed other big players. The news comes via The Verge who obtained a statement that the Pixel 5a is their last to have a charging brick. This means that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, will be the first to ship without one. This is a step away from the previous generations of Pixel where a fast charger was included.

There are a number of factors at play in the decision:

  • Environmental: By users purchasing chargers, this reduces e-waste
  • Availablity: Most users already have multiple fast chargers available, is there a need for more?
  • Cost Saving: While users probably won’t see this, there are savings in the decision

While the move may upset or anger some users, it does also open up the flexibility to purchase the charger of your choice. Whether that’s a Google branded charger a GaN charger to improve charging times and flexibility with devices that’s down to you.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to be available to Aussies on the usual release cycle, around October. We’re ready to check out Google’s latest, most powerful device yet – are you?
