Our world is very visual, we’ve got the beauty of nature to admire, people and we sell with pictures. But what if you can’t see?
Google has been working very hard for the last couple of years on making the online world, and technology in particular more accessible. Apps like Live Transcribe, Sound Amplifier and notifications built into Android as well as TalkBack.
For people with vision impairment or blindness, knowing what’s going on around them often hinges on other people. Whether this is assisting to guide them, or describing what’s happening. When it comes to video this isn’t always possible, and that’s where audio transcription comes into play. While it does add a bit of time to the Google I/O Keynote from this year, Google has added audio transcription for viewers who can’t see all of the detail.
Even if it’s just for a few minutes: I encourage you to start the video, close your eyes and see the world from a different point of view.
