SGS III Optus and Vodafone
Thanks to a number of tipsters who’ve contacted us, it appears that both Optus and Vodafone are rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to their handsets now. From what I can tell the update is going out as an OTA update but can also be upgraded via Kies as well if you so wish. To prompt your phone to upgrade simply go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check now for update.

The update is for the Optus GT-i9300 and GT-i9305, the Vodafone handset is I believe the i9300 but please correct me if I’m wrong. The Telstra update is listed on their Crowd Support forum as being Approved and the status is “Scheduled to begin staged deployment at 2:00 PM AEDT 4th February” however comments suggest this may be the GT-i9300 only not the 4G GT-i9300 model, if you have a Telstra Galaxy S III with Telstra please advise if you’ve received the update and on which model.

The Android 4.1.2 upgrade brings the Premium Suite and Samsung has provided two videos on the Android 4.1.2 Premium Suite for you to have a look at :

Part 2 :

Remember we love to hear about device updates, so if you see your device receive an update let us know via twitter or email.

I got the update for Optus GT-19300 – on Jan 15 2013 to 4.1.2 – my other half is with Telstra – he also got updates at a similar time his has extra light settings for the camera, where as mine just has the same – anyone else find this? Is there an additional update available for the camera?

Got the 4.1.2 update on my Optus GT-I9305 on Tuesday the 5th. Wouldn’t install on my phone so I had to do it through Kies. Loving the new low light camera setting 🙂

My Telstra I9300T is downloading an update now. I assume its 4.1.2 as I already have 4.1.1

phantomsofthedesert

the only thing i notice at the moment is that the battery draining quicker. apart from that things seem to work ok. can’t wait for 4.2.2

Graham Bae

It’s a feature, not a bug!

Gee Bee

not quite sure what you mean. as i’m not suggesting anything. it’s only an obsevation that the battery appears to be draining quicker. my pattern of usage has not changed since update.

Graham Bae

I didn’t mean anything. Just poking fun mate 🙂

Couldn’t wait to get it through Vodafone so done it through Kies, works perfectly no issues at all.

Little too late, flashed the international version 2 weeks ago.

Received this on my 3G S3 early Monday arvo =)

You should ask Samsung why it is starting to lock down the launcher. In the latest firmware you have to hit menu and edit to be able to edit the home screen and the dock is completely locked. The same thing has happened with the Galaxy Note 2.

S3 3G on Optus: GT-i9300
S3 3G on Telstra and Vodafone: GT-i9300T
S3 4G on Optus: GT-i9305
S3 4G on Telstra: GT-i9305T

See the pattern?

If you love your SGS III camera don’t do this update. Completely wrecks its ability to focus. You need your phone quick to catch that shot thats just perfect before it changes and you have to spend 50 years trying to get the bastard thing in focus and you miss the shot anyway.

I have no issues with the camera focusing after the update

David McMullen

No issues here either. I have heard of others having camera focusing issues though.

Melissa Hooper

It’s a little slower to focus, which is annoying.

I received the update on the night of the 4th. SIII 3G GTi9300 on Telstra

Way to late to the game, I was on this months ago, official release too.
