Just days after announcing they would be trialing a new software concept with 500 Swedish Xperia Z3 owners, the software has leaked.

The new software concept, Sony said was a stripped back, more AOSP like interface with a few Sony apps baked into the system. Recognised XDA contributor Jozinek has posted a how-to on flashing the software onto your Xperia Z3, as well as giving a quick run-down on his thoughts on the software:

  • ROM is very fast and stable
  • it is something like AOSP with some Sony applications
  • there isn’t Stamina mode, Screen Recording, XPERIA themes
  • but there is Music, Album or Whatล› New
  • ROM is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • if you know AOSP, than this is not so interesting for you
  • most of application in app drawer are from Google
  • you can change icon size, it it similar to stock Android 5.1.1 from Sony Mobile

The review also includes a video walkthrough, if you’re wanting to see a bit more about what you’re in for if you flash the software.

Also shared are some pics of the phone running the software and it does indeed look very stock, which is the takeaway you’ll get from reading the comments. So essentially this is really a Lollipop ROM with Sony apps installed – something that could be attractive to some users who like Sony apps.

If you’re an Xperia Z3 owner and want to try a more stripped back, AOSP-like Android experience then you can head over to XDA where the instructions for flashing the ROM (and of course the ROM itself) are available.
